■ ORIGINS & FORMATION:
The Original Neighborhood Ballas, originally known as the "Rollin Yardies", emerged as a powerful South Central Los Santos street gang alliance. Comprised of multiple sets spread across the city, they fly under the 2x Deuce Car, a faction aligned with the Rollin Heights Ballas and rooted in the legacy of the West Side Ballas.
Following the violent fallout between the Rollin Heights Ballas and Kilo Tray Ballas, the ONHB was born out of survival and loyalty. OG sets like the Front Yard Ballas and Rollin Heights Ballas formed a coalition, taking over blocks north & south of the East Beach Freeway Extension, with some even stretching past the Brown Streak Railroad. This alignment would go on to be called the "Neighbor Hood Ballas" or "NHBs", separating themselves from the "Gangster Ballas (Tray/3x)" who rolled with the Kilo Trays.
Over time, this war between Deuce (2x) and Tray (3x) cars would spark a bloody legacy of Balla-on-Balla violence. While sworn enemies, some sets have still crossed color lines—creating forbidden ties between Deuces and Trays. These acts are considered treason under NHB street law.
Examples:
• Grape Avenue Ballas – Once NHB, flipped to Tray after clashing with Rollin Heights sets.
• Temple Drive Ballas – Linked up with Front Yard Ballas forming the “Movin' Yard 2 Yard” alliance — a controversial coalition under constant scrutiny.
After the 1992 Los Santos Riots, many OGs began unifying broken sets and rebranded the NHB movement into what is now known as the Original Neighborhood Ballas (ONHB).
■ THE HOO RIDERS:
The Hoo-Riders (also spelled Hoo-Ridaz) were founded in the Los Santos County Jail during the mid-1980s by Raymond "Ray Ray" Rollins and Cordell "C-Knocca" Mays. It started as an internal unity pact between incarcerated Balla members under the NHB umbrella. What began behind walls became a street identity, reppin’ NHB unity, aggression, and brotherhood through county and street-level activity.
■ N-HOOD CULTURE:
NHBs are known to throw up two fingers and a thumb—shaped like the letters “NH”—to represent "NeighborHood". Their members, known as "Hoodstas", adopt local slang like:
• “Naybahood”
• “On Hood”
• “Naybas”
Female members are often referred to as "Hoodlettes".
They also rock the iconic Rockstar Games Logo on their clothing, especially hats, using the star to represent “Hood Stars”, a term of honor and gang pride. The “2x / Deuce Car” is also heavily represented in NHB graffiti, gang signs, and hand tat culture.
■ IN ENTERTAINMENT:
The Original Neighborhood Ballas gained national exposure in the late '80s and early '90s due to their connection to rising West Coast rap legends:
• Snoopy Loc
• C-Knocca (formerly of Front Yard Ballas)
In 1990, Rollin Heights Ballas drew media attention outside of Jefferson when linked to Cadillac Slim of Blastin’ Fools Records, further boosting the ONHB name in both music and crime.
“We don’t bang colors — We bang corners. Deuce life. Hood stars for life.”
